IT’S all change at the top of Division One in the Blights Motors NDL where Heathcoat overtook Sandford and Bideford – and Bridestowe & Belstone are now in the mix.

John James (left) hands the James-Ford Trophy to Jack FordHeathcoat entertained Hatherleigh and won by four wickets. Hatherleigh, who chose to bat first, racked up an all-out total of 187. No one scored more than Jack Probert (24), apart from 28 extras.

Frederick Walker (3-51 was Heathcoat’s most successful bowler. Archie Goodrick, Artie Evans, and Jeremy Bedford took a couple each.

The Heathcoat chase wasn't without alarms. Jasper Preswell (3-31) dismissed Dan Pugsley with the first ball of the innings, and helped reduce the home side to five for three. 

Thomas Holley, the surviving opener, stood firm, and carried his bat for an unbeaten 79. He found support from Evans (34), and Matt Harrison who was not out on 31 not out, when Heathcoat reached their target in the 36th over.

Bideford and Sandford played for the magnificent Leach-Ford Trophy at Westward Ho!, where the hosts prevailed by 48 runs

Bideford scored 264 all out, thanks mainly to 102 not out from club stalwart John Weeks. He hit 13 fours and four sixes en-route to his first century for three years. Fawaaz Gallie, and Julian Hayter both chipped in with 32. Ian Hayter contributed 23. Forty-nine extras helped the cause.

Ollie Knight (4-30) was the pick of the Sandford bowlers. Toby Pennington grabbed a couple.

Sandford’s chase started well. Joe Hopkins (63), Joseph Saunders (26), and Ben Chaloner (50) took them to 144 for two. 

Jack Ford, Bideford’s captain and a former Sandford player, applied the brakes with a four-for-17 haul that saw Sandford slump to 216 all out.

Bridestowe & Belstone defeated visiting Westleigh by nine runs in a high-scoring affair after racking-up a 40-over score of 279 for eight.

Shaquan Glasgow was the star of the show with an impressive 170 not out. He entered the fray after Tom Poole (4-44) reduced B&B to 54 for three. 

Glasgow hit 15 fours and 12 sixes in a brutal display. He took a particular liking to the bowling of James Morris, taking 28 off one over.

Westleigh gave it a real good go and were 270 for five when they ran out of time. Rick Wild reached an unbeaten 100 in the final over, in which he scored 11 of the final three balls to get there. Will Speed made 66 and Poole a quick 41 not out. Andy King took three wickets for B&B.

Barnstaple & Pilton lost by 24 runs when they travelled to Lynton & Lynmouth in Division Two.

Lynton scored 230 for eight, thanks mainly to 90 from David Brierley and 48 from Fred Batt. 

There were three wickets each for Matt Jarvis and Dom Chugg, and a couple for Febin Francis.

Barnstaple & Pilton’s chase was led by Matt Newtons (71), with chip-ins from Chugg (30) Jake Freer (33) and Martin Brown (32no). Disciplined bowling from Lynton saw the visitors close on 206 for six.

Braunton won the basement battle at Holsworthy by eight wickets in a brief, low-scoring game.

Holsworthy were all out in the 28th over for 65. Adam Lovejoy (19) and Ryan Seymour-Smith (16) were the only batters to achieve double-figure scores.

Ajesh Alosious (3-8) and Jobin Franklin (2-10) were the pick if the Braunton bowlers.

Braunton got the runs in a hurry, the winning ones scored in the 14th over. Nibin Bernard hit 25 and Kim Evers an unbeaten 20.
