Devon Cricket Club Insight Report 2026

Devon clubs have been taking part in our Club Insight programme this summer, which helps the Devon Cricket Foundation build a better understanding of recreational cricket across the county while giving clubs useful information to support their own development.

In 2026, 33 clubs, representing around a third of Devon's affiliated clubs, took part in our first county-wide Club Insight Survey, which was developed in partnership with Community Sport Insight, an independent benchmarking and insight initiative for grassroots sports clubs.

The result is the Devon Cricket Clubs 2026 Insight Report: an anonymised snapshot of the strengths, challenges and opportunities across our club network.

What did we learn?

There is plenty to be positive about across Devon cricket:

  • 76% of responding clubs offer junior cricket.
  • 94% receive sponsorship or advertising income.
  • 7 months of running costs are held in reserve by the typical responding club.
  • 61% experienced demand for cricket they couldn't fully meet.
  • 61% identified growing women's and girls' cricket as a priority.

The full report also explores club finances, membership fees, sponsorship, participation, junior pathways, facilities, volunteers and the support clubs would most value.

How does your club compare?

The Insight Report isn't a league table and doesn't tell clubs what they should look like. Instead, it provides useful benchmarks and questions for committee discussion.

For example, the 2026 report found that the typical responding club had an adult membership fee of £65, junior membership of £38, and sponsorship income of around £4,050.

It can help your committee ask questions such as:

  • Are we making the most of sponsorship and other income opportunities?
  • Is demand being limited by volunteers, coaches or facilities?
  • Could we strengthen our offer for women and girls?
  • Are juniors progressing into open-age cricket?
  • Are our club's financial reserves working effectively?

These are prompts for discussion, not a checklist or judgement of your club.

Clubs that completed the 2026 survey didn't just contribute to the Devon-wide picture.

Every participating club received its own personalised Club Insight Report, benchmarking its club against similar clubs.

The survey took clubs around 16 minutes on average to complete, and feedback from participating clubs has been extremely positive: every club that provided feedback indicated they would participate again, with 71% very likely to do so. Furthermore, 86% would recommend the survey to another club.

We want to build on the 2026 survey and make Club Insight an increasingly valuable resource for Devon cricket. The more clubs that participate, the stronger the county-wide picture becomes.

With most participating clubs saying they would take part again in the future, make sure your club pre-registers for our next Insight Report!
