Thinking of setting up Walking Cricket at your club? In collaboration with Sport England, the Devon Cricket Foundation are providing free starter kits to clubs in Devon looking to set up their own walking cricket section up in 2026.

Having received a grant from the Sport England Movement Fund, we will be be able to support clubs to develop their Walking Cricket offering to the local community from September 2026 onwards.

Each year the Sport England Movement Fund invests more than £20 million of National Lottery and government money to support projects that get more people active, reduce the number of inactive people and tackle long-standing inequalities.

"We're really excited to work with clubs across the county to get walking cricket up and running," says Community Manager, Helena Simpson.

"Thanks to the funding from Sport England, the Devon Cricket Foundation are now here to help clubs get a walking cricket setup sorted. The starter packs we are able to offer thanks to this funding will be a great way for us to give clubs the momentum to start walking cricket in their community."

What is Walking Cricket?

Walking Cricket is a low-impact version of traditional cricket designed to accommodate players of all ages and abilities, especially older adults or those with reduced mobility.

True to its name, running is not required; players walk to score runs and move between positions. The game retains the essence of cricket, including batting, bowling, and fielding, but with simplified rules and a slower pace to ensure inclusivity and enjoyment for everyone.

With its focus on fun, fitness, and camaraderie, the sport fosters an inclusive environment where participants can enjoy the thrill of the game without overexertion.
