Torquay through to South Devon T20 play-off after beating Barton
TORQUAY clinched the Torbay T20 final by handing out a 57-run defeat to Barton in the final at the Recreation Ground.
Opener George Allen hammered 81 off 50 balls to set Torquay on course for a total of 185 for four.
Barton lacked one big score to anchor the innings and were restricted to 128 for eight in reply.
Next up for Torquay is a Friday night appointment at the Rec with Teignbridge winners Ipplepen in the South Devon qualifier.
The winners of that game go through to county finals day at Sidmouth on July 24.
Already through are North Devon and Bradninch, who beat Exmouth in the Exeter and East Devon final on Sunday.
Lewdown have to play either Cornwood or Plymouth in the delayed West Devon final to decide the last place in the final. Cornwood meet Plymouth this Sunday (17th) at Plympton with a midweek date inevitable for the West final.
Allen and Mitch Pugh (17) gave Torquay a 55-run start before Jaryd Sieffert (2-36) removed the latter.
Allen kept going, putting on 28 with Sach Galhenage and 52 with skipper Justin Yau (23).
Ben Francis (14no) and Josh Hunt (19no) chipped in at the end.
Sieffert and Andy McVeigh (2-30) were the pick of the bowlers.
Barton were 85 for two in the 11th over and giving Torquay some cause for concern.
Shaun Needham (31), next man Mark Gilmour and Tom Drake (23) were removed in the space of seven balls by Galhenage (2-29) and Mat Petherbridge (4-16) and that was pretty well Barton’s race run.
Alex Hunt finished 15 not out in Barton’s total of 128 for eight.
