A Busy Winter of Schools Indoor Cricket

This winter Devon Cricket saw record entries into the indoor tournaments. 41 schools entered across the Under 13 and Under 15 mixed and girls' competitions, with 11 new schools entering that had not entered a team before.

"Thanks so much for organising the tournament. It was our first time and the girls absolutely loved it!", commented the member of staff from Clyst Vale who entered for the first time this year. They enjoyed it so much, the school has already entered the summer competition and is one of the schools involved in the six-week secondary school girls' programme we run in partnership with Chance to Shine.

Many of the 41 schools taking part entered teams into the different age groups, meaning that throughout the whole competition over 700 students across the county took part.

"It is amazing to see the growth of cricket in schools in the last three years. This is clearly reflected in the number of entries we have had, as well as the standard that was on display in all of the regional rounds. It was especially good to see players in older age groups umpiring and scoring for the younger age groups and providing positive role models," said Ann-Marie Presswell, who co-ordinated many of the tournament arrangements.

For Devon Cricket, the growth in participation has been the focus, but for the players, making it to the county final was the goal and who would become the indoor champions for 2023. For more details on the regional team winners and who went through to the final please see here.

Before congratulating all the winners, Devon Cricket would like to thank all school staff who organised for their children to attend, as well as all the venues that hosted the Regional Rounds and Final Exeter University, Ivybridge Community College, Exeter School, Maynard School, The Life Centre Plymouth, Paignton Academy Hub and Exmouth Tennis Centre.
