Ivybridge celebrate historic club event!

Returning to Ivybridge Cricket Club just two years after their tentative Wine and Wickets season, it was difficult to see how they worried about whether it would be a success or not. The club embraced the initiative to set up a women' section right from the start with the committee and chairman being fully involved in the project and this has been the key to the success. Now an integral part of the club, from All Stars to Committee members, chairperson Gerry Clough, is proud that the club is more representative of the local community and that women and girls can arrive at Ivybridge and feel that it is welcoming and cricket is a sport for them.

As part of Women's Cricket month, the club arranged an historic event of a double header match evening, with the women playing on one side of the pitch and the girls on the other. This was the first time in the club's history a girl's game had been played - as it was for Buckland Monachorum, their opponents. It was very fitting that it should happen in Women's Cricket month and the celebratory mood of the evening showed how much the event meant to the club.
