Ottery St Mary go unbeaten to win first county softball tournament

Ottery St Mary remain unbeaten all day to become Champions

It was a beautiful day as the teams arrived at Ivybridge Cricket Club. The club looked glorious - pitches were marked, gazebos out for scorers and teams and most importantly, coffee was on the go!

We were looking forward to a great day of cricket for the ladies softball and after such a strange season, it was great to see 6 teams in the tournaments, separated into their playing bubbles for the day.

The schedule looked as follows...

  PITCH ONE PITCH TWO
GAME 1

Paignton vs Ivybridge

Ivybridge win

Buckland Monachorum vs Abbotskerswell

Buckland Monachorum win

GAME 2

Ottery St Mary vs Paignton

Ottery St Mary win

Exwick vs Buckland Monachorum

Exwick win

GAME 3

Ivybridge vs Ottery St Mary

Ottery win

Exwick vs Abbotskerswell

Abbotskerswell win

The cricket was competitive....

But there was also much enjoyment and the day was defined by lots of laughter and smiles..

The team spirit was evident and it was great to hear all the encouragement between players..

With all the results in from the rounds, the day went into the Play off positions...

Third Place Play off

Paignton vs Exwick - Paignton win in a absolutely great game that came down to the last ball, but Exwick could not take the wicket they needed.

Second Place Play Off

Ivybridge vs Buckland Monachorum - some local rivalry in the game, but with some great batting from Hazel Hughes, Ivybridge won the game by 31 runs.

Champions/runners up Play off

Ottery St Mary vs Abbotskerswell

Ottery St Mary took charge in the game from the start despite Abbotskerswell bowling well. With an amazing 13 wickets taken by Ottery during Abbotskerswell's innings, Abotts could never quite reach the total needed and Ottery won by 98 runs.

Ottery Champions!

Abbotskerswell runners up!

We would like to thank Ivybridge Cricket Club for all their preparation and hard work to make the tournament Covid safe and easy to manage. Also thanks to all the team managers and captains who have kept the teams and players going throughout this challenging season. We look forward to seeing you all back and running again next season in hopefully less challenging times.
