ENGLAND fast bowler Craig Overton is the first star cricketer to confirm he will be playing in the Marcus Trescothick Testimonial game at South Devon CC on July 17.

Trescothick’s Somerset XI will be squaring-up to Women’s Kia Super League champions Western Storm in a one-off Twenty20 game at the Newton Abbot club.

Trescothick’s XI is expected to feature players past and present spanning his 20-plus years on the staff at Taunton.

Overton made his mark in last winter’s Ashes Test by dismissing Aussie captain Steve Smith on his debut.

The Overton twins are huge favourites in Devon, where both went through the county age-group sides before graduating to the professional ranks. Both still turn out in Devon League cricket for North Devon when their other commitments permit.

The testimonial game is the third of its kind hosted by South Devon CC since 2015 when Peter Trego took a side to Marsh Road.

South Devon had a special guest in their ranks that day, the West Indies star Chris Gayle, who emerged from a hospitality tent in borrowed gear to lay into the bowling.

South Devon also hosted Somerset last summer in a testimonial game for batsman James Hildreth.

More details of the Somerset side will be released early next week.
