First Lions chance for Daldorph (pictured) in two-day game against Cornwall at Truro

PLYMOUTH pair Teddy Haffenden and Matt Whalley are both in the Devon Lions Development squad for the two-day game against Cornwall at Truro, which starts tomorrow (Sunday).
Haffenden made a half-century last time out for the Lions in a one-day win over Gloucestershire Young Cricketers at Clifton College. Whalley shared a century stand with Plympton’s Elliot Hamilton on the same game.
Although Plymstock spinner Tom Mitch was under-employed in the win over Gloucestershire, he keeps his place in the side.
A new face in the side is that of Thorverton all-rounder George Daldorph, who has impressed with bat and ball this season for the A Division promotion chasers.
Devon had to make a late change to the travelling party when Exeter’s Josh Nott pulled out due to injury. Sandford’s Matt Jeacock comes in as a bowling replacement.
Team members Adam Small, Harry Passenger, Jeacock, Matt Whalley and Harry Southgate have all appeared for Devon senior sides in either red or white-ball cricket in the past.
Tim Western, Devon CCC's performance director, said games like this are an important part of the squad-strengthening process.
"We are looking to have two or three options per role in the first team in our strive to be one of the leading National Counties," said Western. "This game gives players the opportunity to put a marker down for the selectors.
"Although not three days, this long format match will create an environment where players can adapt their games. Top-order bating for the first session, and bowlers bowling more than 20 overs in one day, are examples."
