Club Facilities Survey yields good response

Club Facilities Survey

The recent survey initiated by Devon Cricket, undertaken as part of a broader data gathering exercise for the County Facilities Strategy, yielded a decent level of response, with almost 60% of Devon clubs participating.

Clubs were asked to comment on the most important facilities issues at their clubs, particularly associated with playing, training and recreational aspects.

In our continued mission to ascertain as much information as possible about club facilities and club needs, we are channelling our efforts towards preparing a “Facility Checklist” for each of our Devon cricket clubs. Members of the Devon Cricket Board will visit each ground throughout the summer months to complete this checklist. We appreciate that many clubs may have been through a similar exercise previously, so whilst the intention is for DCB personnel to complete the majority of the checklist, there will be a need to engage with a representative at the club who ideally has broad knowledge of the club facilities.

Therefore, over the coming months we will contact each club to arrange a convenient time to carry out the visit.

To provide some advanced vision of the content, here are some examples of the information we will be aiming to gather :

  • Number of grass pitches on the square and number of adult matches played on them over the past season  ( to determine utilisation)
  • Presence and condition of non-turf pitches on the square
  • Type of pitch covers used and their condition
  • Provision and condition of essential grounds machinery
  • Utility services provided to the facility and any restrictions due to lack of services
  • Provision of social space and use of outdoor areas as extension to social space
  • Changing room access and space
  • Any restrictions preventing disabled access
  • Club development plan objectives over the next 5 years

We hope that each club will be cooperative with this exercise, to ensure we collate the most accurate information possible, which will ultimately help to identify common areas for improvements and potential investment at club level across the county.
