RYAN Glass top scored with 80 in Sandford’s three-wicket win over Heathcoat at Knightshayes.
Heathcoat were bowled out for 153 with most of the runs coming from skipper Peter Randerson.
Randerson top scored with 84 and his fourth-wicket stand of 63 with Jamie Drew (40) was as good as it got for Heathcoat. Richard Foan (3-24) was Sandford’s most successful bowler.
Glass led the way as Sandford whittled away at the target, although Drew with three wickets ensured it was no cakewalk.
At 120 for six the game was undecided, but an unbeaten 29 from Sandford’s Jamie Palmer ended any doubts about the outcome.
It’s Hatherleigh at home this Saturday for Sandford in the Premier North section of the cut-down Devon Cricket League.
Richard Foan, the Sandford captain, feels his team are in good shape for the six-match sprint to a possible semi-final space in early September.
“We have had a good run out against two teams in our group (Hatherleigh and Heathcoat) so we should have plenty of confidence going into this weekend,” said Foan.
Foan felt Sandford’s cricket was on the money against Heathcoat, judged by the manner of their win.
“Although Pete Randerson batted very well for Heathcoat, we fielded and bowled pretty well to keep them to 153,” said Foan.
“Ryan Glass showed how much he has improved as a player and it was great to see him turning his good 30s into a match-winning score.
“Jamie Palmer took his promotion up the order well and got us over the line.”
Beaten captain Randerson said: “We were rusty as a team but very much looking forward to North Devon next”
