NORTH Devon’s Jack Moore put the Newton Tracey bowlers to the sword with an unbeaten 157 in a comfortable six-wicket victory for the Instow outfit.
Newton batted first, and scored a total of 242 for eight in their 40 overs. Opener Oliver Symons top scored with 61. Skipper Simon Gear (37no) and veteran Rickard Screech (33no) put on 65 for the ninth wicket. Roshan Lakmal took five for 23 for the hosts.
Lakmal then opened the innings and scored a run-a-ball 43, but the plaudits belong to Moore. His 157 came off 80 balls – 84 in boundaries – and he shared an unbeaten partnership of 132 with Navindu Vanderbona (23no).
Champions Westleigh entertained Heathcoat, and won by five wickets. Heathcoat were bowled out for an under-par score of 137. Jesse-James Albanie top scored with 36. Former B&P starlet Ian Wheatley took four for 24 for Westleigh. Steffan James, and James Starkey both took a couple.
James led the victory chase, with an unbeaten 68. No other batter got into double figures. Extras contributed 36! Joe Parkinson took a couple of wickets for Heathcoat.
Division Two frontrunners Lynton & Lynmouth lost by six wickets in a tight game away to Barnstaple & Pilton.
Lynton & Lynmouth batted first and scored 169 for seven. David Brierley top scored with 34. Mystery spinner Tony Gilbert took three for 37 for B&P.
Skipper Matt Newton led the chase, with a belligerent 37, backed up by a more sedate 42 from Jamie Sutton. James Roe completed the victory with an unbeaten 49 with 11 balls to spare. Robin Holland took two wickets for L&L.
Hatherleigh skipper Adam Quick was man of the match in a six-wicket victory over Newton Tracey 2nd XI at The Lawn
Newton scored 202 for nine. Jon Whormsley led from the front with 68. Aarron Holland contributed 54. Quick took four for 21 and Sheyansh Ghosh three for 12.
Quick (69no) and Ghosh (68no) shared an unbeaten partnership of 120 as they raced to victory with nine overs to spare.
Exford beat Victoria Park by 36 runs, at Westward Ho!
Exford racked-up an impressive 263 for four, thanks mainly to a rapid unbeaten 106 from Jack Grandfield. He faced 56 balls, and scored 86 in boundaries. Streevishnu Kombath (50), and Paul Jones (43) helped the cause.
Rob Guppy took a couple of wickets for the Park
Viccy Park gave it a go. Ian Brown (65), and Adrian Scarret (82no) put on 104 for the fourth wicket. Once Brown was dismissed the momentum was lost and the visitors prevailed.
