Harry Everett reports on a slightly rain-hit weekend of action in the women's hardball competition before July sunshine finally found room ready for this coming weekend.
This week we focus on Hatherleigh’s home win over North Devon in Division One.
A slight turn-up for the books in Northwest Devon as North Devon were sat higher than their hosts in the table going into the weekend.
The Hatherleigh Women’s 1st team have had a very successful couple of weekends though, winning all three games that they have played going back into the Super 8s.
Having lost the toss and been inserted to bat, Hatherleigh’s Chloe Rose carried her bat, scoring 55 runs, only 24 from Olivia Cooper helping her in the top six.
After a flurry of wickets, Chloe and Rebekah Dennis put on a partnership of 62 and there were quick run-scoring cameos from the tailenders, but only enough for 148 after 35 overs.
Chloe Dennis then bowled an exceptional four-over spell (4-1-4-4).
With two catches and a run out from Angie Rose, North Devon lost seven wickets for less than 10 runs. Only two batters made double figures in their reply.
Reflecting on the win, Hatherleigh skipper Rose said:
“It was a good game played in great spirit. Particular shout out to North Devon who brought a young and inexperienced team, but made sure to get the game on.”
Next weekend, the Hatherleigh women travel to Plympton to continue their 35 over league games.
