Sandford's Tom Maidment – hit 74 in a hurry against Hatherleigh<br>credit: Conrad Sutcliffe - no re-use without copyright owner's consent

SANDFORD defeated Hatherleigh by 59 runs in the only match fixtured on Sunday in Division One of the Brights North Devon League.

Sandford racked-up a 40-over total of 265 for five in the Division One encounter. Ben Handley (65) and home skipper Shaun Hawkins (59) put on 124 for the first wicket. Ben Handley

The introduction of Jasper Presswell to the Hatherleigh attack changed the complexion of the innings. Presswell’s first  four overs were wicketless. His last four produced the wickets of the top-four Sandford batters at a personal cost of 41 runs. 

Once Presswell was bowled out, Sandford’s Tom Maidment took charge. He hit a quick-fire 74 not out from 51 balls and shared a 59-run partnership with Rhys James (20).

Once 25 extras were factored in, Hatherleigh were presented with a challenging total of 265 for five.

Hatherleigh’s reply was a stop-start affair. Will Hopkins (3-40) and Joseph Stevenson (2-38) helped reduce Hatherleigh to 53 for three.

Shrey Ghosh (47) and man-of-the-match frontrunner Presswell (86) helped Hatherleigh past the 200 mark. Shaun Hawkins (3-30) bowled his way on to the man-of-the-match shortlist. Presswell was last man out with the score on 206 with just under six overs to go.

Nomansland beat Braunton at the Kelsey ground by three wickets in a Division Two game.

Braunton scored 195 for six in 40 overs. Nomansland knocked them off for the loss of seven wickets in just under 28 overs
