National Programmes continue to make significant strides in Devon, with participant numbers in 2024 just shy of 3,000, marking a steady increase since 2021.

All Stars and Dynamos, designed to inspire a love of cricket among children aged 5-11, have proven popular with clubs and have shown significant progress in inclusivity, particularly with a surge in female participation.

The past four years have seen consistent engagement with the programmes across the county. While numbers dipped slightly in 2022, the recovery in subsequent years highlights their enduring appeal.

The 2024 figures represent the highest level of participation in Devon to date, reflecting the increase in community engagement, partnerships with schools, and the vibrant network of local clubs and centres delivering the programmes.

Participant figures in Devon were the 14th highest in the country for overall numbers, accounting for 2.9% of the national total.

"We saw that All Stars had worked well elsewhere, so we thought, 'Why not here?' It's brilliant to see it all coming back together."

Perhaps most notably, the programmes have seen remarkable growth in girls' participation. Female participants have grown in number year-on-year, making up 29% of all participants in 2024:

  • 2021: 720 participants
  • 2022: 796 participants
  • 2023: 829 participants
  • 2024: 855 participants

Devon also ranks 14th nationally for the number of female participants. The rise from 855 in 2024 (from 720 in 2021) is a testament to the efforts to make cricket more appealing and accessible for young girls, which has been mirrored in the growth in the female game across the county.

Female participation in National Programmes is growing year-on-year.

Preparing for 2025

The milestone of nearly 3,000 participants in 2024 is a testament to the hard work of coaches, activators and volunteers who have championed these programmes since their inception. In 2025, we want to surpass the 3,000 participants mark and the preparations start now!

The ECB are running a National Programmes Virtual Roadshow at 6:30pm on Thursday, 5 December 2024, when they will be sharing details and direction for the delivery of All Stars and Dynamos Cricket in 2025.

The meeting link and agenda will be distributed with existing centres nearer the time. New clubs and centres can request a link from allstars@ecb.co.uk.

Case Studies

Many clubs and centres have benefitted from the implementation of National Programmes. Here are just a few case studies from the last couple of years:

  • Heathcoat CC - All Stars 4 All helped alleviate the financial boundaries associated with entering the world of cricket.
  • Dawlish Dynamos - Cricket returned to Dawlish for the first time in 15 years after local Dynamos sessions were set up.
  • Chulmleigh and Mid Devon CC - Restarted the club's junior section following the pandemic through National Programmes.
