WALKING Cricket makes a second appearance on the Bideford fixture list this Satruday (June 14) after a successful debut session on the Westward Ho! ground

The first session of Walking Cricket, which took place in glorious sunshine, was an all-round success.

Fifteen people signed up for the Sunday morning event which included an introduction to Walking Cricket, coaching, some drills and a finished off with a lively game.

Some people had never played cricket before; others were returning to the sport after a time away.

Ages ranged from 55-75 and both men and women went along, not only to play, but also to enjoy the social side of cricket afterwards.

Cathy Gleeson, one of the new players, said: “I thoroughly enjoyed myself and fully intend to be there next time.

“Hopefully, I'll stay on my feet and be able to use my new skills then.”

Anne Stone, who organised the session, said” “I know this group will be a success, and we are putting on more sessions in the near future.”

Kevin Fishleigh, the Bideford CC chairman, said there was an extra incentive for people to give walking cricket a try.

“We have offered free membership for the year to anyone who comes along and we welcome all-comers,” said Fishleigh.

“My thanks to Anne Stone for organizing everything – and her team who led the coaching. They’ve done an amazing job to get this off the ground at short notice. ‘It was great to see so many people at the first session.”

Start time for the 90-minute session at the sea front ground on Sunday is 10am.

Further sessions are on the calendar for July 12 (10-11.30am), August 3 (10am-noon) and September 7 (10am-noon).
