The winter of 2025/26 saw our first-ever girls' indoor league take place in Exeter. 12 teams entered across three divisions, which was a great start for the first season!

The league took place in the Exeter area for its first season with the aim of keeping girls engaged and playing during the winter, developing game skills and team bonding.

Matches took place at Exeter School on Wednesday evenings, with the Under 13 format being pairs cricket, while the Under 15 followed a traditional cricket format.

"The Culmstock Girls really enjoyed the indoor games. They found the game fast and fun with the extra challenge generated by the balls bouncing off the wall," commented Culmstock and Bradninch & Kentisbeare Coach Lizzie.

"I was really impressed to see the bowling accuracy improve with all the girls taking wickets. Their batting showed good tactics…but most of all, the girls had immense fun and supported and encouraged each other during the games."

Unbeaten in their games, Sidmouth Under 13 and Exmouth/Paignton Under 15 girls were top of their tables.

Exmouth Manager Jo said: “It’s been fantastic to see so many girls involved in Devon’s first indoor girls' league. The girls really enjoyed the competition, and it's been a great way to keep them engaged with cricket throughout the winter months while developing their skills and confidence, and they have made some friendships that will carry into the outdoor season."

"It was a bit of a risk to run an indoor league, as there is such a choice of winter sports for girls, but it was great to see the number of teams entered. The most important aspect is that the girls all enjoyed the experience, building their skills and enjoying their cricket," comments Ann-Marie Presswell. "The plan for the future is to extend indoor leagues across the county so that more teams can use the winter months to keep girls playing."
