DEVON batsman Elliot Hamilton says he has some superb memories of his time at Plympton, which has ended with a move to Premier new boys Tavistock.
Hamilton worked his way through the age-group teams at Harewood House before making his 2nd XI league debut against Exeter at the tail-end of the 2016 season. Within two seasons he was a first-team regular.
The business-like left-hander went on make more than 150 first-team appearances up until the end of the 2025 season. Twelve league tons – and an unbeaten double-century against Kilmington in the 2022 promotion-winning season – underlined his value to the team.
Back-to-back relegations from the Premier down to the B Division of the Tolchards Devon League signalled the end of Hamilton’s time with Plympton.
Although Hamilton is on his way to Tavistock, happy memories of playing for Plympton linger on.
“I have so many memorable moments so could talk forever about Plympton, but the one I want to highlight was when we won against Budleigh to seal promotion to the Premier Division in 2022,” said Hamilton, who made one of his 35 half-centuries for the team in the game.
“Winning the last nine games in a row was something, but also doing it with the boys I played with that season made it more special as a lot of us had played age-group cricket together.”
Hamilton combined playing with coaching during his latter time with Plympton, which he said he found hugely rewarding.
“I had been at Plympton since I was five, going through the age groups and training on Friday nights, so being able to transition from a colt to helping as a coach was possibly the best thing for me from my time at Plympton,” said Hamilton.
“There was no better feeling than watching the players I coached grow up and become proper players, but more importantly good people.”
It is next stop the Ring for Hamilton, where he will continue to double-up as a player and coach.
“I’m looking forward to contributing both on and off the field with playing and coaching this season,” said Hamilton.
“I am also looking forward to the social side as I’ve heard it’s a good crack at Tavy!”
