BABBACOMBE’S golden oldies will be on parade today when the club celebrates its 125thanniversary with a special match.

Babbacombe Past, skippered by Martin Passmore, are playing Babbacombe Present in a 30-over game at Walls Hill (2.30pm).

There will be plenty of Passmores on duty as Martin’s four sons are all playing – Matt in his XI and twins Dom and Ben in the Present XI, which Ben will be captaining.

Other familiar faces making an appearance for the Past XI include Dave Williams, John Rankin, former Torquay United footballer Peter Darke, Terry Farkins and Dave Goulding.

Passmore has one or two surprises up his sleeve too.

Tim Goodwin, who is the match director, said: “It would be great to see loads of old faces at the game.

“We have tremendous interest in playing and I suspect there will be enough players to use rolling subs in the field.”

Babbacombe officials will be keeping fingers crossed for fine weather today.

When the club celebrated its centenary in 1993, Somerset took a side to Walls Hill for a 40-over game.

It rained all day and the only games that took place were in the bar!

The anniversary celebrations will conclude in early December with a gala dinner at the Babbacombe Hotel.
