PLYMPTON have work to do in the batting department next season if they are going to improve on this season’s mid-table finish in the Tolchards DCL B Division.

After two successive relegations – Premier to A Division followed by A down to B – captain Harry Kandampully wanted 2026 to be a consolidation season in the top half of the table.

Plympton did finish mathematically closer to the bottom two than the top two without ever looking in any danger of going down again.

Kandampully was pleased with the bowling effort, especially having lost Callum Williams (Plymouth) and Elliot Hamilton (Tavistock) after last season’s relegation, but said there were question marks over the batting department.

“Our failure this year has mainly been with the batting as, on many occasions, we've failed to bat our 50 overs,” said Kandampully.

“We will have to improve this next year if we are to reach our goals. However, we are still a very young side and the effort from the players in training has seen lots of improvements. 

“Sam Ford’s bowling has really come on; Shalok Gangatkar’s off-spin has been a real handful for batters and Alex Carr bowled with great control and picked up important wickets.”

Best of a modest set of batting stats was Manny Motswiri’s 341 runs at 37.78, which included an unbeaten 113 against Ashburton second time around. Finn Torley (274@22.83) was some way behind.

South African Motswiri (19) and Sam Ford (18) were the wicket-taking front runners. Gangatkar (12) was third in line.
