ONE Hundred not out! That's Barton CC, whose centenary celebrations ‘kick-off’ in earnest tomorrow (Sunday) with a charity cricket match against the footballers of Torquay United.

As there has been a long association between Barton and the Gulls, reviving a match between the two is a perfect way to start the centenary programme.

Numerous United footballers have turned out for Barton over the years, such as the Callands, Geoff Cox and his son Maurice, Griff Norman, Bruce Stuckey and Lee Barrow.

The Gulls used play a number of friendly games against local clubs up to the 1970s with Barton, Brixham and Torquay all on the fixture list.Geoff Cox (fifth from the left) and fellow Torquay United players going out to field during a game against Barton in the early 1960s

There is lots going on at the Cricketfield Road ground tomorrow, which has been Barton’s home since the 1930s. Previously, they played at Watcombe.

An under-11 colts’ match gets the celebrations under way between 9-11am, followed by a fun game between the Barton Belles ladies team and a Colts-and-Family side.

Newly refurbished dressing rooms will be officially opened at 1.30pm.

The match-of-the day, a 20-overs-each affair, should start at 2pm.

[O] IT’S not just new dressing rooms Barton will be showing off tomorrow. The club’s 2nd Xi lifted the Brockman Cup on Friday night by defeating Teignmouth and Shaldon at Torquay Recreation Ground. Pictured below is winning skipper Tom Porter and man-of-the-match winner Matt Needham.
