AKSHAY Bharadwaj and Sidhaarth Arulvendan spun Cullompton to a 61-run win over Torquay & Kingskerswell.

Half-centuries from Deshan Dias and skipper Brendon Parr helped Cullompton post a competitive total of 228 for eight.

Four wickets for Bharadwaj, and three more for Arulvendan, consigned the Seasiders to 167 all out.

Victory moved Cullompton 46 points clear of the relegation spots. It would take some doing to slip into danger now.

Torquay & Kingskerswell are not out of the wood yet as just 17 points separate them from the bottom two.

Dias (50) and Parr (71) got Cullompton going after Bharadwaj (22) gave them a start.

All six Torquay & Kingskerswell bowlers took at least one wicket. Rio Koyikkara (2-30) took two.

The home side’s reply seemed in a good place at 117 for four with runs in the laptop for Josh Thompson (28), Harry Passenger (22), Tim Western (21) and Nathan Roux (21).

Passenger’s demise – caught behind off Arulvendan (3-33) started a steady slide to 148 for eight.

Josh Hunt stuck around to make 32, but support was in short supply as Bharadwaj (4-28) finished off what Arulvendan had started.

Dan King, the Cullompton vice-captain, said: "It was a great result, especially after being sent in.

“Our batters did a great job to get through the 50 overs and put up a challenging total.

“Disciplined bowling in the middle overs – especially from Akshay Bhadawaj, who took advantage of the spinning conditions – made it difficult for them.”
