PLYMSTOCK were given a reality check after the high of lifting the Corinthian Cup last time out by a six-wicket defeat at the hands of Seaton.

Memories of the 10-wicket win over Chagford in last Sunday’s Corinthian Cup final at Bovey Tracey evaporated as Seaton skittled Plymstock for 101.

Josh Sumer, not-out twice on Corinthian Cup finals day against Barton then Chagford, was a first-ball casualty against Seaton.

Chester Oldfield’s 38 off 90 balls were the only runs off the bat more than the 27 extras Seaton coughed-up.

Ben Morgan (2-18) took early wickets for Seaton, skipper Tim Doulton (3-39) got into the middle order and Kai Croft (4-18) swept away the lingerers.

Jack Dormer opened for Seaton and was still there on 38 not out when the winning runs were scored. Tristan Wakeley made 34 of the first 49 in the lap top.

Tom Mitch (3-11), the Plymstock captain, took two wickets in four balls to slow things down. By the time he took his third, which was Sam Goodier for 19, Seaton needed seven to win. Game over.

Doulton, the Seaton skipper, said: “It was nice to have Ben Morgan back at the top setting the tone early. We started really well with the ball, 

“We knew we had to keep them to a below par score to nullify their strong bowling attack, so keeping them to 100 was pleasing. Cameos from Tristan Wakeley and Jack Dormer were excellent chasing this.”

Opposite number Mitch said: “We were far from our best with the bat again. A few interesting decisions that impacted the game massively did not make it any easier. 

“We battled well with the ball but ultimately defending a low total was never going to be easy. 

“We’ve not been at it on Saturdays recently and must do better if we’re to keep ourselves clear of any issues.”

Plymstock are 14 points ahead of second-bottom Bovey Tracey 2nd XI, who visit Dean Cross this Saturday in a double-pointer as far as ‘issues’ are concerned.
