BRUNO Warwick-James hit a half-century to put Cornwood 3rd XI on course for a five-wicket win over Stokeinteignhead.
Stokeinteignhead yawed from 67 for two to 91 for six on the way to 154 all out in the 37th of their 45 overs.
Joseph Lyo opened with 35, Paul Russell compiled 31 in the middle order and 25 extras were the best of the rest.
Jack Lane (5-29) pipped Charlie Carwadine (2-26) and Dan Rhode (2-22) for the bowling pat on the back.
Cornwood’s run chase was a routine affair punctuated by losing two wickets in the 80s, two more on 111 and the last with five runs needed. Asish Jacob (4-41) was Stoke’s primary interrupter.
Principle support for Warwick-James was supplied by Ewan Horner (26) and Eoin Hewitt (24). Victory took the Wood up to second in the E West table.
PLYMPTON 2nd XI eased to a seven-wicket victory over Kenn to take a 50 per-cent share of second-place with Cornwood in the E Division West.
Kenn were obliged to Sam Plumb (45) and Tom Mason (43no) for an 86-run stand that rescued them from 66 for six after a new-ball battering from James Ferriman (3-20). Alex Carr (2-27) and Joe Coppola (2-24) helped limit Kenn to 171 for nine.
Plympton lost wickets at 35, 39 and 104 on the way to winning with 11 overs to go. Kristian King (57no) and Jack Martin (32) both made their point about being left out of the first team.
Billy Pitman (35no) was in at the end when King hit Ben Parry for four to clinch it.
WHITCHURCH skipper Richard Potts got exactly the outcome he wanted when his side chased 228 to win against Stoke Gabriel – and got it with four wickets in hand.
Last time out Whitchurch were skittled for 56 by Cornwood 3rd XI and defeated by eight wickets in a game that lasted fewer then 30 overs from start to finish.
Said Potts: “Chasing 224 to win after the previous week’s collapse was pleasing.
“A nice opening stand provided a platform, then a top knock by Nige Barriball took us past the required rate.”
Olly Brown (32) and Chris Harrson (45) got Stoke away to a 70-run start. Andy Ball (42) and Mitch Trewin (51) kept the runs coming. Trewin was the last man out in a tally of 223 for eight.
Darren Sambells (2-26) was Whitchurch’s only bowler who went for less than three an over.
Potts (30) and Richard Hall (39) primed the Whitchurch run chase. Barriball, in at 70 for one, was finally fourth out on 203 for 81. Game as good as over.
BRIDESTOWE & Belstone 2nd XI were the latest team swept aside by E Division West leaders Babbacombe.
The Torquay table-toppers have won every game they have finished so far on the way to a 22-point lead over Cornwood 3rd XI at the top of the table.
Skipper Richard Drake (12) was the only B&B batter to get past seven in an all-out score of 68. Twenty-nine extras topped everyone!
Adrian Lipton (4-26) and former Stoke Gabriel bowler Jack Smith (3-6) did most of the damage for Babbacombe.
Babbacombe’s only casualty in a nine-wicket win was opener and captain Rob Redding for a unlucky 13.
Chris Mabbutt (29no) and Damon Calland (17no) were the not-outers when the winning runs were scored.
LEWDOWN made it 38 points from the last 40 on offer by imposing a 44-run defeat on Paignton 3rd XI.
Back-to-back wins over Stokeinteignhead and now Paignton have hoisted Lewdown out of the bottom two and up to fifth.
Matt Maynard (32) and Tim Shaw (54) put on 80 for the third wicket in Lewdown’s total of 174 all out.
Paignton trio Will Milton, Jon Roberts and the ever-youthful Tim Ward all took three wickets.
Nick Smith, whose eight-wicket clutch sunk Stokeinteignhead last time out, had two early wickets as Paignton subsided to eight for three.
Harry Knight (27) and Ward (23) did what they could, but the damage was done. Keith Maynard (3-38) and Jimmy Simmons were largely responsible for bowling-out Paignton for 128 with exactly nine overs to go.
