KENN bounced back from their 191-run drubbing by Torquay & Kingskerswell 2nd XI with a 17-run win over D West promotion-chasers Chagford.

The side that had been bowled out for a paltry 46 seven days earlier, put 205 for seven on the board at Chagford.

There was a brief stumble from 57 for one to 69 for five due to Chagford’s Neil Rowlands (3-30) getting involved, but Ben Chaloner’s anchorman knock of 74 sorted things out.

Charlie Francis (27), skipper James Mason (33no) and Pete Chislett (35no) all kept the board ticking over.

Chagford appeared to be in a good place at 154 for five, despite interruptions from Mason (3-12), thanks to runs from Richard Hopwood (21), Chris Jelley (61) and Paddy Poustie (35).

The turning point was James Gosling trapping Jelley leg-before, which led to a terminal collapse.

Gosling went on to claim five for 37 as Chagford fell away from 184 for seven to 188 all out with 10 balls to go.

Mason said the win over Chagford showed what Kenn were really capable of.

“We were more positive in everything we tried to do and the result can be seen for itself,” said Mason.

“Against Torquay & Kingskerswell our batting didn't show the ability it has. This time we had team belief , team attitude , maturity at the crease and did not give away our wickets.

“Them we bowled as a unit and took our catches.”

HATHERLEIGH 2nd XI remain out in front at the top of the D Division West thanks to a five-wicket win over Plymouth Civil Service and Roborough.

But with only 13 points between the top four, the promotion squabble has a few more twists and turns in it yet.

Dan Winsor (35) and Malik Wasim (40) were Civil’s main run makers in an all-out total of 174. Ritesh Dubey (25) weighed in.

The innings stumbled from 125 for two to 140 for six and never really recovered. Luke Westacott (3-35) and Cameron Rowlands (4-34) were the bowlers who dismantled the Civil batting.

Hatherleigh did not have it all their own way on the chase – and at 91 for five with Rowlands out for 29 here it could have gone either way.

Charlie Nielson (69no) and Adam Quick (25no) saw off any danger by adding on 85 to put the result beyond doubt.

BARTON 2nd XI are still stuck in D Division West relegation zone following a five-wicket derby defeat by fellow strugglers Babbacombe.

Had Barton defeated their cross-town rivals they would have clambered ahead of Yelverton and out of the bottom two.

Although Yelverton lost as well –Torquay & Kingskerswell turned them over – they collected more bonus points than Barton and moved two points further up the table!

With just nine points between the bottom three of Babbacombe, Barton and Yelverton, the positions could change quickly in the last lap of the season.

Ben Passmore (4-24) and Marcus Tanton (4-16) did the damage with the ball for Babbacombe as Barton were bowled out for 75. Opener Lewis Crocker (30) made the only score above nine.

Barton’s Sree Sankaranaryanan (4-23) made his former Babbacombe team-mates sweat at times, but not for long enough to stop Marcus Thompson (18) and Passmore (16no) seeing them home.

TORQUAY & Kingskerswell 2nd XI eased their relegation worries with a six-wicket win over Yelverton at Langton Park.

Victory would have hoisted Yelverton ahead of Torquay & Kingskerswell and clear of the drop spots.

Instead, T&K have opened up a 20-point lead over third-bottom Yelverton and are 24 points clear of the bottom two.

Defeat left Yelverton just four points clear of the redline, currently filled by second-bottom Barton 2nd XI.

Yelverton travel to Barton on the last day of the season for what could be a relegation decider.

Fred Smale (68) got Yelverton going again after the departure of David Ackford (37) to get them up to 155 for eight.

Yelverton got little or no change our of T&K spinners Towkir Chowdhury (3-15) or Tobias Delahunty (1-21).

Other than losing opener Vivek Kuklarni sooner rather than later, knocking off the runs was a straightforward task for T&K.

Delanhunty (23) and Tom Lillywhite (34) laid the foundations, which were built on by veteran Mike Pugh (56no) and Mustavi Emdad (20no) to clinch it with an over to go.

Josh Stevenson (3-26) was easily the most prominent of the Yelverton bowlers.

IVYBRIDGE 2nd XI defeated their Plymouth counterparts by three wickets with just nine balls to spare.

Tim Hughes (36) and skipper James Toms (64) put on 76 for the fifth wicket towards a Plymouth total of 210 for seven. James Webb had already been and gone for 46.

No one got through nine overs  for Plymouth more cheaply than Jithin Joseph (1-16). Adrian Pullin (2-31) was next in line.

Sam Northmore (40) and Sam Kidd (46) got the Ivybridge chase going with a partnership worth 72 for the second wicket.

A mid-innings slowdown was rectified by veteran Pullin (29no) and Will Peakman (36no) putting on 53 unbroken to win it.
