BARTON 2nd XI were glad of Sree Sankaranaryanan’s cautious approach to batting in their four-wicket win over Tavistock in a low-scoring encounter at Cricketfield Road.
Barton needed longer (29.2 overs) knocking off the runs than it took them to bowl Tavistock out (27.2) for 87 in the first place.
The left-arm spin of Lee Ciocca-Marchant proved a handful for Barton’s top order and brought him a five-wicket return. Forty-two for two had become 46 for six during his spell.
Sankaranaryanan, in a 31 for two, batted out the game for an unbeaten 27 off 77 balls to clinch a Barton win.
Tom Sherrell had top scored on 29 for Tavistock, which does not leave much from the rest once 17 extras are subtracted.
Barton bowler Sankaranaryanan (2-6) posed problems when the ball was new. Dave Cadwallader (4-3) mopped-up when the shine had gone.
Tavistock, who were top of the table in D West two rounds ago, are now fourth in the table with 14 points between them and new leaders Plymstock 2nd XI.
PLYMOUTH Civil Service Roborough tumbled to a whopping 167-run defeat at the hands of D West leaders Chagford.
The unbeaten table-toppers, who have a 14-point lead over second-placed Plymstock 2nd XI, were all out for 230 in the 42nd of their 45 overs.
Other than keeper-batter Paddy Poustie who was in and out for five, there were runs all the way down the card to number seven.
Lucas Pedrochi (34) and Harry Senior (30) opened smartly, Stuart Lipo (42) maintained the momentum and best of the rest were Ben Lanyon and Andy Paterson with a pair of 34s.
Malik Wasim(3-35) and James Higgins (2-18) were Civil’s most productive bowlers.
Wasim (16) and Syed Farooq (14) were the only CS&R batter to get past eight in a measly total of 67 all out.
Ted Gossett (5-23) got into Civil’s top six, which left Pedrochi (3-23) to pick-off most of the rest.
Defeat leaves Civil two off the bottom of the table going into this Saturday’s basement battle with Ipplepen 2ndXI.

Vivek Kulkarni (20) and Tobias Delahunty (22) got Torquay & Kingskesrwell’s innings started before Jack Worth split them up.
The bulk of T&K’s runs were scored by fourth-wicket duo Mike Pugh (79) and Fiaz Ebrahim (73), who put on 133.
Two wickets each for Jithin Joseph and Chris Greenhouse were the bowling bright spots for the Bridge.
Ivybridge had Josh Bullock (38) to thank for seeing off the new ball – and Sam Kidd and Matt Dardis to thank for putting the chase on course.
Kidd (67) and Dardis (55) made a 105-run dent in the deficit that got the target down to 35 to win from the final five overs with five wickets left.

David Ackford (44) and Rob Grove (24), opened up with runs, Fred Smale followed-up with 25 and Josh Stevenson made 35 down the order towards a total of 191 all out.
The ninth-wicket stand of42 between Stevenson (35) and Harry Nankivell (16) proved vital in the final totting-up.
Wickets went two each to Bradley Aldridge, Ross Kennard, Steve Bowden, the frugal Harry Lewis and Harry Courtice.
Ipplepen only got as far as 158 for five before they ran-out of overs.
Matt Beasant played the anchorman role with 55 not out batting first wicket down, and Kennard made 41. Apart from Marcus Green’s 21 not out there were no contributions significant enough to keep up with the asking rate.
Matt Smale (2-29), Alistair Horler (1-22) and Mike Marais (2-29) were Yelverton’s economical nine-over bowlers.

Gold went soon after for 29, one of three poles claimed by Hocken (3-31), followed by veteran opener Richard Harmer for a patient 69.
Erik Gregersen’s four-boundary 29 was the best of the rest as Abbots meandered to 191 for six.
