
LUCAS Pedrochi helped himself to a five-wicket haul that set Chagford on course for a 31-run win over Torquay & Kingskerswell 2nd XI that took them to the top of in D West.
Pedrochi, over from Western Australia for the season, had already made 30 towards Chagford’s total of 215 for nine. Skipper Jake Griffiths (75) was the top scorer.
Pick of the bowlers for T&K on a good day for the Antipodeans, was Kiwi Tobias Delahunty with three for 35.
The Westerns – father and son Tim (34) and Daniel (38) – got Torquay & Kingskerswell away to a 54-run start. Western senior was finally fourth out on 108 to Pedrochi.
Pedrochi, who had already accounted for Tom Lillywhite, added the key wicket of Fiaz Ebrahim (52) to his collection en-route to a five-for-25 clutch as T&K were limited to 184 for eight.
PLYMSTOCK 2nd XI edged out Barton 2nd XI by 16 runs to go joint second in the D West table with Tavistock.
Jamie Palfreyman (41) and Fraser Cowen (48) were Plymstock’s primary run getters towards a total of 215 all out. Olly Birleson’s 22 not out late in the day turned out to be crucial in the final totting up.
Plymstock found runs particularly hard to come by against Barton’s Sree Sankaranaryanan (2-14). Colt Josh Parkinson claimed two for 31.
Arun Radhakrishan (72) and Sankaranaryanan (26) then took Barton’s chase to 132 for two. A wicket each for Josh Hocken (3-28) and Dean Jeffrey (3-19) changed the complexion of the game.
Odds and ends down the order – Vishalkumar Patel’s 17 the best of them – could not get Barton back on course and they ran out of batting on 199.
YELVERTON defeated Tavistock 2nd XI by nine runs in a D West derby date at the Ring.
Tavistock looked in good shape at 120 for four chasing 186 to win with runs in the book for Ben Evans (25), Tom Sherrell (30) and the ageless Steve Luffman (18).
The chase lost its way a little when Matt Smale (4-35) and Josh Stevenson (3-25) got into the middle-order batting.
It remained game on the longer Luca Ciocca-Marchant remained in residence. Tavistock were 10 runs light with two wickets left and two overs to go when Smale dismissed him. Jon Procter followed almost immediately.
Fred Smale’s studious 54 was Yelverton’s top score in their total of 185 all out. In at 60 for two he was part of stands that added 117. Josh Watts (27), Matt Smale (24) and a timely 21 down the order from Michael Marais kept the scoreboard flickering.
There were two wickets each for Evans and Ryan Burke. Both were out-bowled 13-year-old spinner Will Chappell, a third generation Tavistock player, who took thee for 33.
Grandad Barry is a former Tavistock 1st XI player, so is dad Darren, who is currently assisting the 2nd XI, and older brother Tom has a spot in Tavistock’s 3rd XI.
NURUZ Zamal had a clear case for man-of-the-match in Plymouth CS&R’s 35-run win over Ivybridge 2nd XI at Manadon.
After openers Malik Wasim (62) and Ben Wilkinson (24) got Civil off the mark, Zamal (41), Faz Hasan (24) and Paul Butson (46) took the team total to 223 all out. Butson was involved in lower-order stands that added 82 for the final four wickets.
Farzad Safi (3-48) knocked-off Butson in his second spell. There were two wickets each for Jack Worth and Nisapthan Saravanane.
The Bridge had some work to do after Dan Winsor and Al Stewart with two wickets each had the wobbling at 54 for four in reply.
Chris Greenhouse (23) and Safi (62) started digging the Bridge out of a hole and at 155 for five they were back in contention.
Zamal sent back Safi and next man in Dardis five balls apart, added Greenhouse soon after and went on to take four for 22 as Ivybridge were bowled out for 177.
IPPLEPEN 2nd XI got off the mark in the D Division West with a 74-run derby win over their Abbotskerswell counterparts.
A 95-run stand between Jeff Heath (77) and Sam Hennessy (50) was the most sizeable contribution to Pens’ tally of 276 for five.
Abbots’ opener Nick Guest batted from start to finish for 75 not out in a reply that reached 202 for four.
Cameron Gold (27) put on 70 with Guest and there was an unbroken stand of 92 between Guest and skipper Aron Owen (40no).
Pens’ skipper Adam Peters tried nine bowlers to winkle out Abbots. Matt Beasant (2-33) booked the best set of figures.
