NORTH Devon 2nd XI’s top order got some batting practice in before rain stopped play in the derby date with Barnstaple & Pilton.

Openers Navindu Vanderbona (38) and 13-year-old Freddie Bettis (27) hoisted 60 for the first wicket before Jimmer Thomas (2-37) split them up.

Neil Bettis, the former Devon batsman and father of Freddie, came and went for nine, also at the hands of Thomas.

Lee Cole (2-27) winkled out Vanderbona then Regina Lilli (16) in a running total of 113 for four.

Richard Clarke (16) was the last man out for North Devon prior to the players coming off with the score on114 for five.

ALPHINGTON & Countess Wear’s home game against Bradninch & Kentisbeare 2nd XI lasted just four overs before it was halted due to bad weather.

The Alphas were four for none when rain stopped play. All four runs were scored by Ethan Goddard.

CULMSTOCK picked-up four bowling bonus points on their rain-ruined D East debut against visiting Woodbury & Newton St Cyres.

Woodbury had dipped to 95 for two after 25 overs – worth two batting bonus points – when conditions deteriorated.

An early battering from Luke Dopson (3-28) and Marco Bell (2-19) had reduced Woodbury to 19 for four before Matt Moretta (24) and Mukesh Purohit (22) turned things round.

Adam Rimell (2-24) and Dopson sparked a second collapse from 60 for four to 71 for eight, which accounted for the middle order. Maaz Salman being run-out without facing a ball did not help! Woodbury’s Nalin Chouhan was 19 not out at the early end.

THORVERTON 2nd XI’s were 20 without loss in the E East derby date against Cullompton when the game was abandoned.

THERE was no play at the Holt where the game between Budleigh Salterton 2nd XI and Topsham St James was cancelled without a ball bowled.
