BRAUNTON’S season came to a soggy end when their game away to Ashburton was called off.

As Sam Reddick’s side were already safe from the threat of relegation, and Ashes long-ago resigned to going down, there was nothing riding on the game for either team.

Braunton did spend four weeks during the season in the bottom two, but never for longer than two rounds.

Three wins in a row over Clyst St George, Plympton then Bovey Tracey – and 57 points out of 60 – made Braunton safe before the date with Ashburton.

Mid-table safety is one thing; progress is another. Reddick knows what has to improve next season to set sights higher. They have to start winning away from home. Beating Plympton at Plympton was the only win away from Kelsey this season.

“It’s been fantastic to play as well as we have – at times – at home, where we won seven of our nine games,” said Reddick.

What migjht have been?

“Walking away from some away fixtures with between one and four points on multiple occasions, has left us wondering what may have been?

“If we can build on our successes, and show a little more fight when up against it, we are a side definitely capable of competing higher up the B Division.”

Pinpointing Braunton’s stand-out player in 2026 isn’t difficult. The nominee is Theo Valeri who supplemented 463 league runs with 18 wickets.

The breakout player of the season is under-15 seamer Luan Matthews De Menezes, who was never out of the side from day one and took 24 wickets, which included five for 27 in a 19-run win over Bovey Tracey 2nd XI.
