Being introduced to volunteering by someone you know is a big motivator. 66% of opportunities come to light through word of mouth (Sport England: Lifecycle of Volunteering in Sport)

TRY BEFORE YOU BUY
Experiencing what volunteering is all about is key to building confidence and hooking people in. Ask people to help with a single task before asking if they will take on a role!

FLEXIBILITY
People want and need their volunteering role to fit around their lives. Use volunteer rotas so poeple can plan ahead. 

EASE OF RECRUITMENT PROCESS
Getting involved needs to be as quick, simple and hassle free as possible. People want to know what they are being asked to do, consider 'role descriptions' e.g. junior team manager description 

NO ONE ASKED ME!
One of the reasons people don’t volunteer is that no-one asked them to help out – 3 out of 5 who are willing, state they have never been asked. (ECB NCPS 2019) This is most effectively done face to face!

 

LOOK....
Within your club - not your current volunteers, but at your members, players and parents and their wider networks - include in parent/player registration form a question on peoples occupation - then make use of the skills people already have! 

The wider community - Broadening your search to include the wider community can bring in fresh perspectives, skills, experiences and make your volunteer pool more diverse
