DEVON U13 girls put in an epic performance to defeat Wales by 85 runs at Bradninch.

Opener and captain Georgia Read made a top score of 42 off 71 balls in Devon’s 25-over total of 129 for eight.

Erin Vukusic took four wickets for one run conceded in five overs she bowled as Wales were skittled out for 44 in their 22ndover.

Devon found runs hard to come by at first and were glad of Read’s anchorman knock. She was seventh out on 91 having out on 26 with Vukusic (12) and 31 for the seventh wicket with Jemima Johnson (14).

The reversed power-play format used for this game made finding runs a challenge.

Izzy Fox (15no) and Hannah Jones (14no) batted patiently and cleverly to see out the overs and add 38 more runs to the total.

Devon went back after tea determined to defend the total with tight bowling and switched-on fielding.

Opening bowlers Vukusic and Heard had a wicket each in their first overs to leave Wales one for two.

Vukusic claimed three lbw decisions as the Wales early order crumbled to seven for five. She finished her five-over spell with the remarkable figures of 5-4-1-4.

Alice Brown (0-7 off 3) bowled economically then Darcy Thomas (1-3 off 3) bowled Beca Evans to leave Wales 20 for six. None of the first five scored a run off the bat.

Devon were on fire and wickets continued to fall with Imogen Daldorph talking two – one bowled and one caught by Thomas.

When Catherine Webb dispatched top scorer Alexandra Poole for 10, Wales were almost finished.

Bea Willis took just five balls to complete the rout as Wales were bowled out.
