Performance management will be dovetailed as between with FCCs and
CCBs and NCs, and the governance of all NCs will be brought into line with
best practice.
The operation of NC’s development X1s will comply with minimum quality
standards and closer links will be established through the player pathway
from CB U17s via development X1s to county teams. It is hoped to improve
playing standards through such cooperation and by increasing resource
allocation within the pathway, At national level, early season talent
identification will take place with a short match play programme, involving
regionally selected U23 sides and top university teams
The ECB’s planned new future 50 over a side competition will involve 18
FCCs and 18 NCs, with the latter having home advantage in the preliminary
round. Such arrangements will be similar to those of the former Gillette,
Nat West and C&G competitions, the last of which was discontinued in
2007. In addition, the ECB will strongly encourage an annual T-20 friendly
match between FCCs and adjacent NCs earlier in the season before the
Vitality Blast competition
The new programme is being funded by the very generous financial
backing of the ECB ( £8million over five years)and involves the respective
parties agreeing to a Cricket Partnership Agreement. It will function from
2020 to 2024 and will operate in a similar way to past Memoranda of
Understanding.
The newly named National Counties are part of a network that has devised
a national strategy,, established through locally developed initiatives,
and aimed at being sustainable, efficient, effective, and part of countrywide
shared values. Changes to National Counties cricket, a few of which
are controversial, are designed to ensure the future health and financial
wellbeing of top quality recreational cricket. The need for the full support
of those who play, organise and spectate this top tier is vital if the National
Counties are to be successful in the long term.
