The latest clubs to receive a Development Grant from the Tolchards Devon Cricket League (DCL) are Torquay & Kingskerswell CC and Topsham St James CC. Both clubs are looking to create more opportunities for women and girls' participation.
Starting with just three interested girls, Torquay & Kingskerswell CC expanded this number to 29 women and girls. This was made possible through the engagement of a professional coach from Zimbabwe. Outdoor coaching sessions were supplemented by indoor nets at the Spires School, Torquay. The club are hoping that, through their partnership with the school, their programmes will attract more young girls going forward.
With the help of the DCL's grant, Topsham St James CC were able to offer both winter and summer coaching sessions for women and girls. All of these sessions were supported by Level 2 coaches, and although the numbers weren't as good as the club had hoped for, plans are already in place to continue sessions into the winter.
During the course of the year, the DCL have made eight Discretionary Development Grant awards to member clubs. The awards have totalled just over £3k and have been made in support of women and girls' cricket, Walking Cricket and digital scoring. Further details may be found at Devon Cricket League.
