BARTON’S Fin Last was the stand-out player in the quarter finals of the Ivor Dewdney Corinthian Cup as he slammed 85 from 59 balls to help his side chase Sidmouth 2nd XI’s 129.

Charles Brock (32) and Miles Lewis (31) hit 30s opening up for Sidmouth, although both struggled to operate at much more than a run a ball.

Muhammad Basit stemmed the flow of runs with his four-over spell of two for 11, and there was a wicket each for Nick Watkin (one for 28) and Harry Shelton (one for 27) as Sidmouth struggled to 129 for six.

Steve Lewis, Barton’s regular Saturday skipper, opened up with Fin Last, and reached 12 before Lee Clayden removed him. Last shared a stand of 54 with Basit (19), before the overseas and Devanshu Sinha fell in consecutive overs.

Watkin (10no) steadied the ship with Last, and the pair helped their side win with just over two overs to go.

Said Watkin: “Delighted to come away with the win and great to play at Sidmouth (one of the best grounds in Devon).

Exceptional

“At one point ot looked like we would be chasing 160-170 so was pleased to restrict Sidmouth to what we did. Batting wise, Fin was exceptional.

“We look forward to finals day at Bovey Tracey on Sunday. Plymstock will be a really tough test in the semi-final (1pm).

Plymstock overcame Ipplepen at Dean Cross to book their spot at finals day.

Rob Cunningham’s four for 22 helped restrict Ipplepen to 127 all out. He was supported by Adam Frost’s two for 27. Sam Wakeham (33) and Marcus Gadie (35) both scored 30s to help the Ipplepen cause.Adam Frost – runs and wickets for Plymstock

In response, Josh Sumner (17) and Chester Oldfield (23) both operated below a run a ball, but it was the hard hitting of Frost (44no) and Josh Hocken (27no) that saw Plymstock to a six-wicket win. Frost’s innings included four fours and three maximums.

Clyst St George’s T20 campaign came to an end at Chagford.

Five players for Clyst reached 20, but only Ridouan Asselman (35no) went above 27. James Sharman was the best of the Chagford bowlers with three for 35 as the away side reached 159 for six.

Ben Hancock’s 95 not oiut snatched the game from Clyst, he needed just 55 balls to inflict the damage. Hancock was supported by a more mellow innings by Chris Jelley (32no) and 27 extras, as Chagford reached their target with two and a half overs remaining.

Chagford will face Seaton (10am) in the morning semi-final at Bovey. Seaton were waved through by Heathcoat 2nd XI in the last eight.
