Sunday, August 11 saw lovely warm weather cricket played, but sadly the women's teams a little bit reduced due to another fixture clash with Devon Women and a few others on holiday or watching One Day Cup matches across the country.
This lead to two conceded games one in each division; Division 1 Plympton conceding to Cornwood and Div 2 Topsham conceding to Exeter 2s.
Harry Everett talks us through the action that did happen in the women's hardball competition on Sunday.
Taunton Deane continued their cruise to the Division 2 title with a 272-run victory vs Bovey Tracey. Annabel Lamb the Deane 2s centurion this week, Bovey skittled for 44, less than the 46 extras they donated the Somerset side. Bovey didn’t even have 11 players so credit for them getting the game on and travelling all the way to Taunton for it.
North Devon won by 125 runs after Plymouth oddly invited them to bat first on one of the most bat-first Sundays of the year yet! Issie Ollis made the most of this notching 110* off 122 balls. Flora Corbin had 58 off 50 balls also, but 67 extras including 28 no balls made it an even worse-looking toss decision for Plymouth.
Olivia Kingdom took 4-30, keeping Plymouth to 170 all out as only Sophie Varga (45) and Melanie Hulbert (40*) showed much resistance.
Paignton did opt to bat and were rewarded with 143-7 but they did not score quickly enough nor keep enough wickets in hand to do so. Rochester’s 2-27 the standout bowler whilst Dennehy was particularly miserly.
Georgia Read opened the batting and did so beautifully to the tune of 99* off 81 balls, winning the game for her side before the chance of a personal milestone. A no ball on the penultimate ball did not help, Read winning the game with a four when she was 95*. Rosalie Fairbairn keeping her company on 34* when the target was reached.
The latest results leave Exeter and Taunton Deane 2s still top of their respective divisions, and Plympton below Plymouth in the Division One relegation spot.
