THE Ivor Dewdney Corinthian Cup reaches its climax tomorrow (Sunday) with finals day at Sandford.
First-up in the three-game format are Teignmouth & Shaldon and Uplyme, who contest the first semi-final at 10am.
Stoke Gabriel, aiming to avoid a fourth successive finals day failure, face cup holders Cullompton at 1pm in a re-run of last season’s final. The final will follow the second semi-final.
All four team captains have shared their thoughts on finals day with Conrad Sutcliffe
TEIGNMOUTH & SHALDON v UPLYME & LYME REGIS (10am)
Teignmouth & Shaldon (Carl Woolnough): Although we are missing Ally Cliffe and Jawad Shirzad, throughout the last few months the guys we've brought in have stepped up when needed.
Everyone in our XI has contributed to us being in this finals day. Our core is strong and every man from one to 11 is capable of hitting out of the park. We will go out there and be brave and take the game on as ever backed up by a well drilled bowling attack.
We had some good battles with Uplyme in the league last year and they fought to the last in the promotion battle. It looks like Joe Elsworth is hitting the ball well at the moment and he scored some runs at our place last season… but not at theirs!
T20 is a leveller so we will have to be on the top of our game to make it to the final.
Uplyme & Lyme Regis (Sam Farrow): Looks like just one change for us on the quarter-final team, with young left-armer Nabi Temori in for Harry Booth. Finals days are great occasions to be involved in and I'm sure we'll take plenty of travelling support too.
No doubt we'll carry the underdog tag into the day against B Division teams, but we've beaten three good sides (Budleigh Salterton, Seaton, Ottery St Mary) to get there and are confident in our game as a T20 side.
We bring plenty of experienced players and, particularly, some great depth with the bat. Reaching semis and finals has never been Uplyme's problem, but we've fallen at the last hurdle a few times now.
We're looking to put that right and come away with the cup on Sunday!
Teignmouth & Shaldon we know from last year and are wary of a couple of their batsmen. We know plenty about Abhishek (ex-Uplyme) for Stoke Gabriel too and what a dangerous customer he can be.
CULLOMPTON v STOKE GABRIEL (1pm)
Cullompton (Brendon Parr): We will have a full-strength side for Sunday. Akshay Bharadwaj seems to be striking it well upfront in this format and will replace Jason Parr (injured) in the power play overs. The lads are really excited to be playing at another finals day.
Sandford always produces great cricket wickets, so I'm expecting some big scores.
James Vincent has a habit of picking up big wickets. He will be looking to dismiss dangerman Justin Pringle early doors!
Lots of respect for Stoke. They are a quality side and have been going well this season. We'll have to be play good cricket to reach the final.
Stoke Gabriel (Jake Robinson): This is our fourth trip in a row to finals. To be honest in the previous three we were just outplayed. Poor against Plymouth (2021) in the first one, the Barriball brothers had a day out second time (Tavistock, 2022) then Trevor Gwandu's (Cullompton) first over finished that game last year.
“I've always thought we've been a good Twenty 20 side. We have beaten a lot of teams from divisions above over the last three or four years and (obviously) had to play well to get to the latter stages.
Got a full side out both days this weekend, which is great to see. It I fantastic everyone is so committed.
“We've got so many guys who could take a game away with bat or ball. We will just focus on the games at hand and see what we can do?
