Devon Women were knocked out of the Vitality T20 Women's County Cup after a spirited run chase against Tier 1-bound Glamorgan on Saturday.

Having won the toss and elected to field, Devon made a promising start with Maddie Russell (1-30) removing Lauren Parfitt in the second over. The hosts then rallied in the remainder of the powerplay, reaching 52/1 by the end of the sixth over, before Naomi Hillman-Bermejo took the crucial wicket of opener Daisy Jeanes with the very next ball. A series of ducks followed, as Bea Willis, Jazz Westley and Eve Jackson all failed to score a single run, leaving the hosts on 59/5 at the end of the tenth over. However, Beth Gammon anchored the innings superbly, remaining unbeaten on 60 from 48 balls. She found able support from Gemma Porter (21), with the pair adding 62 runs for the sixth wicket to lift the home side to 140/8.

Devon's reply showed promise. Elle Golsworthy (31) and Amelie Munday (20) put on 34 for the first wicket, with Munday, on her Devon return after an ACL injury suffered at Somerset Women last season, given out LBW at the end of the powerplay. Jemima Vereker's (26) introduction helped continue in the same vein, but the scoring rate remained below the required level throughout. With 55 needed, both Vereker and Hillman-Bermejo (9) fell in the 16th over, and Regina Lilii (17) and Ellie Bishop's (16) 21-run partnership came a little too late for Devon, finishing on 129/5.

Scorecard

Glamorgan 148/8 (B Gammon 60*, D Jeanes 36; N Hillman-Bermejo 3-19)

Devon Women 129/5 (E Golsworthy 31, J Vereker 26; K Cobb 2-18, P Walker 2-30)

Glamorgan beat Devon Women by 11 runs.

Lauren Rowles's Post-Match Thoughts

"It was a great game to be part of, and I was really pleased with how the group responded after last weekend. The players worked incredibly hard to bounce back and put in a performance we can be proud of, even though the result didn't quite go our way.

"Our bowlers and fielders set the tone brilliantly early on. To restrict Glamorgan to 59 for 5 was a real reflection of the discipline, effort, and desire in the group, and it gave us a great platform in the game.

"Hillman-Bermejo picking up another three wickets was outstanding, and the partnership between Lilii and Bishop at the end was a real highlight. They nearly dragged us over the line, and those moments really summed up the spirit of the group.

"I'm looking forward to the rest of the T20s over the coming weeks!"
