Sponsors’ Day provides the backdrop as Holsworthy welcome Bradninch & Kentisbeare

Holsworthy host second-placed Bradninch & Kentisbeare on Sunday as women’s cricket takes centre stage as part of the club’s Sponsors’ Day.

The day gets under way at 10am with an Under-11s fixture before Holsworthy’s women take on Bradninch & Kentisbeare in Division Three at 1.30pm.

There will also be a barbecue from midday until 4pm, giving supporters and anyone in the area the chance to enjoy an afternoon of Division Three women’s cricket.

On the field, Holsworthy head into the weekend fifth in the table with 48 points from seven games, while Bradninch & Kentisbeare sit second on 108 points.

With just three points separating Bradninch & Kentisbeare and third-placed Ottery St Mary, the visitors will be looking for another positive result to strengthen their grip on second place.

Bradninch & Kentisbeare will also be looking to spoil the Sponsors’ Day party and will have fond memories of the reverse fixture in May.

On that occasion they amassed a formidable 232 for one, with Emma Farley producing a superb century.

Holsworthy were far from disgraced in response, reaching 145 with captain Freya Godfrey leading from the front with an excellent half-century.

With plenty happening around the ground as part of Sponsors’ Day, Holsworthy will be hoping to turn the tables on home soil, while Bradninch & Kentisbeare will be looking to complete the league double and strengthen their hold on second place.

Chagford vs Exmouth 

 

Exmouth swap the sand and sea for the moors this Sunday afternoon as they travel to Chagford for the second of the weekend’s Division Three fixtures.

Exmouth head into the game fourth in the table with 59 points from six matches and two victories, while Chagford have one win from seven. A 31-point deduction has left the hosts on minus three points at the foot of the table.

Exmouth will travel with fond memories of the reverse fixture at The Maer earlier this season, although victory looked far from likely when they found themselves in deep trouble at 22 for six.

A remarkable recovery eventually saw Exmouth reach 134 for nine before they bowled Chagford out for 75 to secure victory.

Lucy Webb was at the heart of the turnaround, producing an excellent all-round performance. She scored 40 with the bat before taking four wickets to complete a Player-of-the-Match display.

Both sides will head into Sunday encouraged by their most recent league performances, having each recorded their highest totals of the season when they last took to the field on June 28.

Exmouth made 146 against Bradninch & Kentisbeare, while Chagford produced an impressive 174 against champions-elect Bovey Tracey.

With both sides having produced their best batting performances of the season last time out, there should be plenty of confidence in both camps as Chagford look to turn the tables on home soil and Exmouth target their third Division Three victory of the campaign.
