Holsworthy v Exmouth 2nd XI

Sunday, September 6 – 1.30pm | Stanhope Park

Holsworthy (pictured) and Exmouth 2nd XI meet at Stanhope Park with the hosts looking to finish their campaign strongly and with a couple of individual battles adding extra interest.

Holsworthy head into the weekend fourth on 88 points, with Exmouth immediately behind them on 71.

When the sides met earlier in the season, Holsworthy came out on top after dismissing Exmouth for 70 in 23.1 overs.

Sharon Dawkins provided Exmouth’s main resistance with an unbeaten 17, but the wickets were shared around by the Holsworthy attack. Freya Godfrey took three for 24, while Layla Godfrey and Jodie Gardner claimed two apiece.

Holsworthy then reached 71 for two, with Freya Godfrey completing a fine all-round performance by finishing unbeaten on 23.

The Godfrey sisters have another incentive heading into Sunday as they battle it out to finish as Holsworthy’s leading wicket-taker – and potentially challenge for the Division Three bowling award.

Freya Godfrey goes into the game with 14 league wickets, one ahead of Layla Godfrey on 13. Division leader Yvonne Jackson has 15 but, with Bradninch & Kentisbeare having completed their league programme, she cannot add to that total.

Jodie Gardner is not far behind either, having taken 12 wickets during an impressive season with the ball.

So while league positions may be close to settled, there is still plenty of individual interest at Stanhope Park.

Ottery St Mary v Chagford

Sunday, September 6 – 1.30pm | Ottery St Mary Cricket Club

Ottery St Mary and Chagford bring their league seasons to a close on Sunday, with the hosts able to reflect on an impressive first campaign in the DWCL.

Ottery have already secured runners-up spot behind champions Bovey Tracey and go into their final game with six wins from nine matches.

Victory on Sunday would make it seven wins from ten in their debut season – an excellent return for one of the league’s newest sides.

The reverse fixture was considerably closer than the league table might suggest.

Chagford made 89 all out, with Lily Finlay top-scoring with 29, as Lily Harland led the Ottery attack with four for 14. Alice Gregory and Olivia Morgan took two wickets each.

Ottery were made to work for the chase before reaching 90 for seven, Harland completing a strong all-round game with 28.

Finlay did her best to drag Chagford back into the contest, taking four for 15, while Brianna Barlow-Endacott claimed two wickets.

Finlay has been one of Chagford’s standout performers throughout the season and heads into the final game with 247 league runs. Another 53 would take her to the 300 mark, with only Bovey Tracey’s Olive McCauley above her in the Division Three batting standings.

Chagford’s position at the bottom of the table does not tell the whole story, with their points tally affected by a 31-point deduction. They have recorded two victories on the field this season and will be looking for another as they sign off for the summer.

For Ottery, Sunday is a chance to put the finishing touch to a very good first season in the competition.
