On Saturday 19th, Plymouth CC hosted the under 11s girls tournament. As reigning champions from last year expectations for the  Plymouth team were high. Despite a small shower of rain, the weather was perfect and we were set for another busy girls tournament. It is a testament to clubs hard work during this unusual season that we were able to get the number of teams entering - thanks to all involved.

The plan for the day was as follows:

  Pitch One  Pitch Two
Game One

Plymouth vs Ipplepen

Paignton vs Exeter
Game Two Yelverleigh vs Ipplepen  Paignton vs Plymouth
Game Three Exeter vs Yelverleigh Ipplepen vs Paignton
Game Four Plymouth vs Exeter  Paignton vs Yelverleigh
Game Five Yelverleigh vs Plymouth Exeter vs Ipplepen

Exeter and Paignton meet in the first game.

We were lucky enough during the day to be joined by some of the older girls at Plymouth, Piper Haffenden and Jemima Johnson, both of whom play county cricket. The girls helped to score and umpire the games. It is important that younger girls see role models in all areas of cricket, not just on the field of play. Thank you to both the girls for giving up their time to help out at the tournament.

Piper scores for her home team, Plymouth

Jemima umpires a game, ensuring all decisions are

communicated to the scorer.

Piper also umpires a game.

There were some great games during the day and as it was pairs cricket, all girls, no matter where they were on their cricket journey, took something from the day, whether it be the first 6 they hit, a wicket they took or an amazing catch.

After all matches were played, this is how the results stood..

  Played Won Loss Tie Points
Plymouth 4 4 0 0 12
Exeter 4 3 1 0 9
Paignton 4 2 2 0 8
Ipplepen  4 1 3 0 6
Yelverleigh 4 0 4 0 4

Congratulations to Plymouth Cricket Club, the tournament winners and retaining the trophy for the second year running

And well done to Exeter, taking home the runners up medals

During the day each team had to nominate a player form the opposing team that they thought played really well - we ended up with 3 joint winners! At then end of the day, the managers also had to nominate someone from their own team as player of the day. They all went away with a Western Storm water bottle as a prize.

Many thanks to all those that made the day a great success - to Plymouth Cricket Club for hosting, for all those that scored and umpired and the team managers for all their hard work. It was a great way to end the season and we look forward to seeing all the girls next year playing games and still enjoying their cricket.
