For many, this weekend was a case of sitting and waiting and watching the rain. In fact that was the scenario for six out of the eight teams this Sunday, with the only game played Axminster vs Cornwood.

The Cornwood Ladies team travelled to Axminster and won the toss, electing to field. After a good start, where Cornwood took two early wickets, Holly Elsworth and Maddie Hollifield took to the crease and set about creating a partnership that would see Axminster reach a final score of 222 for 3. The partnership came to an end with a catch off Stacey Maskelyne's bowling to see Maddie end her innings on 62, including 10 fours. However, Holly Elsworth continued through the innings and ended not out on 114, including 17 fours and one six. Well done Holly!  This is the second weekend in a row we have seen a player in the Ladies league score a century.

Cornwood came to the crease, but Axminster soon took charge of events and the exceptional bowling of  Ellen Day was too much for Cornwood and, taking the 10th wicket of Cornwood, she finished with impressive figures of 6 wickets for 12 runs off 5.4 overs. Axminster's Catherine Webb also contributed greatly to the wicket haul with 3 wickets for 13 runs off 4 overs.

This is only Axminster's second game of the season, as other fixtures have been called off due to weather, and with two good wins out of two, they are certainly looking strong to retain the title of Champions.

Cornwood look ahead now to their home fixture with Topsham, hoping that this fixture was a one off in their fantastic start to the season and their early success in the ECB T20 competition.

Axminster look forward to hosting North Devon, who have also been unlucky with the weather this season and only played one fixture out of a possible five. Along with all the teams that did not play this Sunday, they are hoping that this spell of better weather lasts.
