EXMOUTH have snapped-up keeper-batter Billy Reed as a squad-booster for their Tolchards DCL Premier Division campaign this summer.

Reed has been with Kilmington since 2018 during their journey up the league ladder to the A Division. That journey came to an abrupt halt last season when Kilmington were denied promotion to the Premier Division due to the lack of a comprehensive youth set-up.

When Exmouth skipper Fin Marks (pictured) learned Reed had moved into the town, it did not take long to get his signature on a registration form.

“When we found out Billy had moved to Exmouth, we contacted him and he was keen to come across,” said Marks.

“Billy is an aggressive batter, a good player of spin and also very handy with the gloves.

“He gives us some flexibility within the team and some more depth which is what we were lacking big time last season.

“I feel we have got lucky and are Really happy to have him.”

Brett Garner, Kilmington’s senior player, said even though Reed was largely absent in 2023 he will be missed.

“Billy lives in Exmouth so makes sense for him to go there,” said Garner.

“He didn't play much last year either as he was travelling, but is still a big loss unfortunately.

“As we were not allowed up, perhaps the chance to play Premier cricket made his mind up?”

Reed only made one 1st XI appearance for Kilmington last season, but prior to that featured 63 times. His league stats include four tons – the best 189 against Brixham in the B Division – and five half-centuries.

Reed’s early cricket was played at Ottery St Mary, where he played adult cricket from 2014-2017.
