Last seaon we saw 24 girls, aged 14-17  sign onto the Young Storm Champions, which is a course specifically designed for young women to encourage them to take on volunteer roles including leadership and coaching at their local cricket clubs and this season on Monday 30th May your daughter can be part of this opportunity again.

Learn new skills, spend the day with your friends

Run at Teignmouth and Shaldon Cricket Club, the girls will receive a Western Storm Polo shirt and a bag of goodies when they arrive. Delivered by the local county board, this Western Storm initiative gives the young women chances to explore leadership and have practical opportunties to lead groups and cricket activites with their peers. Whilst developing their confidence, it also gives the participants  a bank of activities that they can take back and use at their cricket clubs or schools.

The young women recieve coaching cards and use them to lead activities with their peers

After a morning of active coaching. the event concludes with a Dynamos Countdown Cricket Game, which will be umpired and scored by the young women themsleves, so by the day's conclusion they leave with skills to run activites, manage matches and officiate in softball games at thier club.

Learning to officiate and manage games is part of the course

In the bag, the young women receive a volunteer log which they can then complete and receive rewards from Westerm Storm for all the hard work that they do - the more hours that they do voluntarily, the bigger the rewards.

Volunteer Rewards:

15 hours: Water Bottle

25 hours: Power Bank

35 hours: Storm Hoodie

The participants receive a book on the day and can volunteer to earn the water bottle and power bank as rewards.

The young women have the opportunity to only volunteer at their clubs, but they can also become involved in the events run by Devon Cricket Board, inspiring all the girls across the county to see that leadership and coaching is a role for them.

This course is ideal for those wanting to take on an inspriational role at their club or are needing to volunteer as part of their Duke of Edinburgh Award.

It is hoped that this early positive experience of coaching and reward will encourage young women to sign up to coaching courses such as the Foundation One Course or the officiating course designined for young people, the Young Cricket Officials.
