LUSTLEIGH carried-off the Tidball Insurance Services Cup when they defeated Ivybridge by 17 runs in the competition final at Hatherleigh.

Having overcome the host club by 43 runs in the lunchtime semi-final – James Fulner belting 73 off 50 balls in a winning total of 149 for three in a 15-over match – Lustleigh found Ivybridge a tougher nut to crack in the final.Richard Tidball (left) presenting the cup his company sponsors to Lustleigh’s winning captain Mike Wright.

Fulner (52no) was among the runs again with a half-century and Chris Mason chipped in with 34 as Lustleigh made 138 for three. Chris Northmore – four overs for 16 runs – helped keep the Lustleigh batters in check.

Jon Wright (4-21) and Matt Partridge (2-32) with two more bowled out Ivybridge for 121. Mike Tocknell made 42 for the losing finalists. Jamie Ferriman chipped-in 22

“It was a cracking day and all the games were played in a great spirit,” said winning captain Mike Wright.

Ivybridge reached the final courtesy of a 22-run win over Teignmouth & Shaldon in the morning semi-final.

Chris Partridge (27) and Tschepo Legodi (31) were T&S’s primary run scorers as they finished on 85 for five chasing 108 to win.

Opener Tuckwell was dismissed first ball by Andrew Espley (2-19) when Ivybridge batted. Jerry Clough (37) and Toby Borrow (25) put on 45 for the fifth wicket to move towards a respectable total of 107 for seven.

Lustleigh will be going for a trophy double on Sunday when they face Paignton 3rdXI at Torquay CC (2pm) in the final of the Valeport-sponsored Brockman Cup.

Wright reports a near full-strength side available for this Sunday’s appointment with Paignton: his hard-hitting son Jon.

“Jon is a big miss for us, but I am sure we will be fine,” said Wright senior.
