Joe Henkus - runs for Ottery against Exeter but in a losing cause

EXETER started their Under 19 T20 campaign with an exciting tied match against Budleigh and a win over Ottery St Mary at the County Ground.

In the first match, Budleigh’s Will Oxland (24no) hit 19 in the last over to bring the scores level on 135 and earn a tie. Ed Doble scored 31. 

Exeter’s stand-out bowlers were Ed Middleton (3-18) and Richard Bentley (2-12)

James Bovey  - a quickfire 52 before injury struckEarlier skipper James Bovey retired on 52 with one six and eight fours for Exeter with Harvey Sargent (15) next best.

Exeter batted first again in the match against Ottery and scored 154 for 7 with Ed Middleton (55) leading the way He hit four sixes and four fours before having to retire. 

There were 16 runs apiece for Jamie Khan and debutant Toby Jones and Bovey looked set again with a quick 14 until a reoccurrence of a back problem flared up leaving him to retire.

Ottery’s George Mutter took four for 16.

Ottery reached 140 in their 20 overs with Joe Henkus top scoring with 39 and Henry Mutter 20.

Maddie Hollified(2-22) removed the dangerous Matt Parker. Bentley took two for 23.
