Devon Women beat Cornwall by 7 wickets to go top of the league in the second match of the ECB County Championship 50-over season at Thorverton CC on Bank Holiday Monday.

Devon started by winning the toss and sending in the opposition and were quickly rewarded with an early wicket to Erin Vukusic (1-21). Cornwall got to 43 before their second wicket fell but were soon 61-7 after some great bowling from Ellie Bishop (2-20), Imogen Daldorph (2-5) and a super spell from Eliza Heard (4-8). Katie Donovan (1-7) wrapped up the last wicket and Cornwall were bundled out for 87.

Devon started the chase well with an opening stand of 35 by Ellie Bishop (14) and Jemima Vereker (17) before Regina Lilii (10) and Rose Ball (27*) put on a nice partnership to see Devon almost over the line. Hollie Perkin (6*) came in and hit the winning runs to see Devon continue their winning start to the season.

Sean Day's Post-Match Thoughts

"It was a wonderful performance by the team. The bowlers kept the pressure on with great control and tremendous line and length. All the bowlers were fantastic.

"The chase was clinical with the batters running well between the wickets with the slow outfield and putting away the loose balls to give us a very good win. It was an awesome team display today."

Steph Hutchins' Post-Match Thoughts

"We executed our bowling plans really well and looked tidy in the field. We batted with some good intent and have set ourselves a really good platform to keep building on going forward."
