Devon Women beat Oxfordshire and Wales to make it three wins out of four in Group 4 of the ECB County Championship T20 at Topsham Sports Ground on Sunday.

Oxfordshire Match Report

In the first game of the day Devon took on Oxfordshire. Having won the toss, the visitors elected to bat and openers Genny Porter (33) and Abi Norgrove (61) made an explosive start to the day putting on 108 for the first wicket, scoring at over eight runs an over for the first 10 overs.

Taking pace off allowed Devon to start slowing the run rate, Regina Lilii (4-14), ably supported by Eva Lewis and Gemma Lancaster, proved to be crucial in restricting Oxfordshire to 140 for 5 at the end of their 20 overs.

Devon's openers, Amelie Munday (29) and Emma Corney (40) started in aggressive fashion, putting on 63 for the first wicket and getting Devon ahead of the rate. Captain Ruby Davis continued the momentum with a quick 29. It was left to Regina Lilii with a run-a-ball 23 and Jemima Vereker to secure the win with 3 balls to spare, ending a very good all-round team performance.

Wales Match Report

In the final game of the day Wales won the toss and elected to bat. The feature of the first innings was the way in which Devon restricted the free-flowing Wales batters. The whole bowling unit played their part, initially through the seam attack of Katie Donovan, Erin Vukusic and Imogen Daldorph and finished off with the spinners Regina Lilii, Ellie Bishop and Eva Lewis. All the bowlers were backed up by a strong fielding display and clever fields set by captain Ruby Davis. Beth Gammon was Wales' top scorer with 48 off 49 leaving Wales 107 for 4 off their 20 overs.

Devon's reply was aggressive and clinical. Openers Emma Corney 46 off 32 and Amelie Munday 55 off 38 secured a 10-wicket win, including 15 4s and a 6, in 11.4 overs to round off the best team display of the season.

Scorecard

Devon Women 110-0 (A Munday 55*, E Corney 46*)

Wales 107-4 (B Gammon 48*, L Clements 15; E Vukusic 1-16, I Daldorph 1-23, E Lewis 1-23)

Devon Women beat Wales by 10 wickets.

David Joseph's Post-Match Thoughts

"Sunday was a great day for the team. We've shown real improvements during the 50-over competition and wanted to take that into the T20s. What was so pleasing was that we talked through how we wanted to play and executed our skills really well.

"What is impressive about this group is that after a good performance against Oxon we wanted to improve in the second game. The plans we put in place were then implemented brilliantly against Wales, a really professional performance.

"It is a pleasure to watch this team develop, play with smiles on their faces and play an exciting brand of cricket."

Ruby Davis' Post-Match Thoughts

"Overall this team has shown an outstanding performance with bat and ball against two strong sides, resulting in two wins for the county.

"In the first game, our bowlers showed great patience and adapted to Oxfordshire's strong start before the batting unit showed class in their ability to chase down such a score.

"In the second game against Wales, our bowlers showed unreal skill keeping the scoring low in the powerplay. Once again our batters put on display an incredible chase making it look pretty easy against a strong Wales side.

"Throughout the day this team showed outstanding commitment to keep bringing home the win as we did in the 50-over league"
