TARKA Girls are on a roll again in the Lady Taverners’ U15 T20 competition after beating Broadstone in the regional final.

The North Devon-based team won the same competition last year and are through to the national final again after beating the Dorset lasses by 164 runs at Instow.

Broadstone put Tarka Girls in and must have wondered if that was wise after the home side put 196 on the board.

Eight an over was the target set by coach Mark Overton and Tarka went well beyond it.

Kate Williams (12) and Eluned Davies (16) made a strong start before makng way for Daisy Meadowcroft and Rose Ball.

In a powerful display of technically solid shots, Meadowcroft hitting 79 not out off 63 balls and Ball had 66 from 44.

It was an imposing target, but Broadstone went out with a positive attitude.

Sophie Gillies took a wicket in the first over and took two for three in three overs.

Min Muir added to the visitors’ misery with two for 13 off three.

Changes of bowling style and pace, along with excellent catches by Charlotte Lipscombe and Meadowcroft left the opposition struggling to find boundaries.

Ball and Meadowcroft had a cheap wicket each.

Jan Witheridge, the team manager, said Tarka are setting a high standard others will have to match to beat them.

She added: “The girls’ greatest strength though is their team spirit and their depth.

“Several players from the winning team last year came down to the ground to support, which is testament to this. 

“Many people in the North Devon and county set-up have played a part in the performance level these young ladies have reached,.

“We will go forward to the National Finals and try to do Devon cricket proud.”
