JACK Moore slammed 159 to put North Devon on course for a 134-run win over Heathcoat in an NDL Division One clash at Instow.

North Devon won the toss and dominated the game from then on. Darren Butler set the mood with a rapid 46. When he fell to Dan Pugsley (4-46) that brought North Devon skipper Moore to the crease and he took the Heathcoat bowling apart.

Moore’s 159 came off 85 balls and contained six sixes and 21 fours.He shared a stand of 179 with James Tyson (70) as North Devon racked-up 341 for the loss of six wickets.

Heathcoat struggled against all 10 bowlers used by Moore. Archie Popham was the stand-out bowler with five for 33. Fardin Kabrira top scored with a 44 not out as the visitors reached 207 for nine.

North Devon will hope the game is a forerunner of things to come this Saturday when the two teams meet again at Instow in a first-against-second date in the Tolchards DCL Premier Division.

Hatherleigh batted first just down the road at Westleigh and racked-up 214 for eight in their 40 overs. Cam Rowlands opened with 56, there was a rapid 59 from Jonty Rapulana and 31 from Henry D'Alberti-Nicholson.

Matt Dart and Josh Atkinson both took three wickets for Westleigh.

Westleigh knocked off the runs with eight overs to spare,. All six batters scored runs. Richard Wild’s unbeaten 57 and Selwyn Fisher’s 52 were the stand-out scores.

There was another big score at Belstone where the home side scored 297 for nine against Newton Tracey.

Richard Drake hit 146 (16 fours and four sixes) and shared a stand of 118 with Leon Horn (56). Rob Gear took four wickets for the visitors. 

Newton slumped to 87 for seven when they batted, and it was left to Rob and Martin Gear to give the scoreboard some respectability as Newton ended on 176 for seven.

There were a couple of wickets each for Ryan Dennis, and Edward Chrichton in a 121-run win for Belstone.

Ilfracombe played Exford at Brimlands in a Division Two encounter. Paul Jones scored 54 in Exford’s 40-over total of 173 for nine. Nathan Challacombe and super veteran Kevin Clarke both took thgree wickets for Combe. Chris Ayres led the chase with an unbeaten 89 as the home side reached their targt with eight wickets and 14 overs in hand.

Nomansland won on the chase against Filleigh after bowling them out for 161. Fraser Boundy top scored with 40. Elliot Cole and Shaun Carter both took three wickets for the Witheridge side.

Ten-man Nomansland got the runs with two overs to go and three wickets in hand. Ed Carter ended with an unbeaten 59. Kevin Toze and Joe Floyd both took a couple of wickets for Filleigh.

Holsworthy travelled to Hatherleigh in Division Three and amassed 248 for six. All their batters made runs with Charlie Bingham out in front on 50.

Hatherleigh’s chase was led by Robert Cockwill (66) and Andy Bennett (36). However, the home side were eventually all out for 194. Matthew Shepherd took four for 28 for Holsworthy in a 54-run win.

Hatherleigh deserve to be commended for getting two sides out in the league on a Sunday.

Barnstaple 

Barnstaple & Pilton thrashed the Kelseymen by 198 runs at Braunton.

There was a maiden century for Tim Norton (110no), a quickfire 66 for Drew Fewings and a rapid 52 from veteran Rob Wilkins as B&P racked up 327 for four. Wilkins and Norton put on 96 for the first wicket and there was a stand of 140 for the fourth between Norton and Fewings.

Kelseymen skipper Andy Norman gave it a go with a quick 50, but lacked support, as his side were bustled out for 129. Opposite number Tony Gllbert took four for six with his ‘mystery’ spin. Giles Bashford (3-10) cleaned-up the tail.
