Match One: Devon v Cornwall

The first round of the 2016 T20 competition took place at Grampound Road in Cornwall.

Devon were put into bat by Cornwall in their first T20 match and wickets fell early as the openers departed! Rose Ball (21) and Sophie Florides (33no) were able to steady their innings, though the next wicket fell in the 6áµ—Ê° over. Millie Attwell (14) and Megan Thompson-Summers (17) supported Sophie to bat the overs and finish on 111-5.

Cornwall's Alice Bebb made a quick 28 and E Mitchell (35) provided stability for her team's innings. Some fine catches from Daisy Meadowcroft , Millie Attwell and Meg Thompson-Summers left Cornwall only requiring eight runs to win off the last two nail-biting overs! Maddie Holifield (4-3-5-1) bowled an impressive wicket maiden, leaving Hollie Perkin to bowl the last over. Still requiring the eight runs for victory; Hollie showed nerves of steel with her last over. Coming to the last ball, Cornwall managed a boundary, but were still runs away from victory. Match Two: Devon v Somerset

Buoyed up with their victory over Cornwall in the first match, Devon faced Somerset. Winning the toss, Devon went into bat. It was very encouraging to see more of the Devon girls making runs and getting into double figures, and once again batting their overs for 132-7. Somerset's best bowling coming from Sophie Hamilton (4-1-19-3).

Sophie Hamilton started Somerset's innings well, scoring her 41 from just 19 balls. Devon were in sparkling in the field with some impressive bowling from captain Sophie Florides (4-1-16-4) and catches from Millie Attwell and an exceptional throw from almost the boundary, for a run out by Eluned Davies, who had fielded along with Maddie Holifield so well all day.

Devon secured their second win of the day, bowling Somerset out for 122 in the last over. Devon won by 10 runs.
